Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a doctor. but he was not just any old doctor, he was also a highly skilled surgeon who was well known for his abilities. All his life, from as young as he could remember, all he had ever wanted to do was help people, he could think of no other reason to be alive, so strong was his desire!
One day, after an afternoon spent relaxing in his tranquil gardens, pulling a weed out here and there, he felt an itch, right in the middle of his shoulder blades. He reached around to scratch it, but try as he might, no matter which angle he turned his arm, or twisted his hand, he couldn't quite...reach it.
"Aha!", he thought, " I shall find a stick, that should do the trick" So looking down at the ground now, he let his eyes travel, until they rested upon the one he decided to use. As he walked over to collect it, he wore a smug little smile, thinking he had solved his dilemma. Sure enough, as he hung it over his shoulder and was finally able to reach the itch, relief came. However, what he DIDN'T notice, was that as he scratched it, a tiny point on the stick had managed to break open his skin.
As he slept that night, he tossed and turned relentlessly, for the itch had returned, and by the time he woke in the morning, he was so desperate for relief from it, that he marched straight outside, picked up the same stick, and set to furiously rubbing it up and down the entire region. Ahhhhhh!!! There it was again, that wonderful relief.
He marched back inside taking the stick with him this time, and setting it on a shelf, just in case. That done, he went off to shower and start his day.
While he was showering, he turned his back to the spray, and immediately felt a a stinging pain where the itch had been, this only served to annoy him, at which point he became angry and decided to completely ignore any more sensations coming from that area!
The morning passed in the usual way, he was kept busy with his patients, just the way he liked it. That silly, niggling pain in his back was not going to stop him from doing his job, no way!
He spent his lunch break in the very pleasant company of his friend and colleague, and as they chatted about their morning, his friend noticed that something was amiss and asked if he was feeling ok because he was looking slightly flushed. With a wave of his hand, our good doctor dismissed his dear friends concern, stating that he was perfectly fine and related to him the story of the itch. His colleague looked rather thoughtful through this exchange, and at the end of it, politely suggested to our good doctor, that he would be happy to take a look at it for him.
"No time for that i'm afraid, the public are waiting" , he replied with a glance at his watch, and so they both set off back to their consulting rooms.
3 days later, he awoke, to find himself attached to tubes and wires in the intensive care unit of his resident hospital. In shock, he tried to sit up, while at the same time trying to brush off the things that had been attached to his body. Within seconds, a nurse was at his side trying to calm him down, and a minute later his dear friend and colleague appeared and promptly informed him: " Blood poisoning. You collapsed right after lunch. What on earth possessed you to think you did not need any help with this? Why... you could not even see it in that position !"

Ok healers and helpers, its a long winded story i know, but if you read it to the end, i am sure you needed to hear it, and it is here, simply to remind you, that you are as important as the people you help, and if you have not already done so, then now is the time to decide who will be YOUR healer. It may be that you already know the person but refuse their offers, remember though, that accepting the help offered is also a beautiful way to help others, it's a win-win situation all round.
Don't you think?
