What is Tarot?
Tarot is essentially a deck of 78 cards with pictures on it. It has been used for centuries as a method of instruction and only recently has it been given the often scary image we frequently see in horror films.
Centuries ago, when people could not read or write, picture cards were used to teach important lessons. Most of our early learning experiences as children are with pictures, usually brightly coloured.
It is well known that the mind thinks in pictures and that a picture literally "says 1000 words". Pictures and symbols can quickly convey a message to our subconscious mind, which we might struggle to put into meaningful words.
Pictures also evoke feelings and emotions in us. It is at the feeling level that the greatest change takes place within us. As Tarot cards are very ancient, many of the symbols stem from time immemorial and as such, teach us Universal truths.
